Metech Holdings Obtains Design Patent for Livestock Methane Measurement Capsule

2025/10/10

Metech Holdings announced on the 10th that it has recently obtained a design patent for the world’s first “livestock methane measurement capsule” (registration number 30-1323666).

Metech Holdings explained that the design patent carries significant meaning because it recognizes not only a technical invention but also an ergonomic design that takes into account the biological environment and safety of livestock.

The livestock methane measurement capsule, developed by Metech Holdings using its own proprietary technology, is an innovative device that measures and analyzes in real time the methane gas produced in the stomachs of ruminant livestock such as cattle.

Unlike conventional external measurement equipment or incomplete estimation methods, the capsule is administered inside the animal’s body, making it possible to secure accurate emissions data. This can be directly applied to low-carbon certification and the creation of carbon credits in the livestock industry.

Metech Holdings, a startup with technology for measuring and reducing methane emissions from cattle, has developed a methane capsule that is inserted into a cow’s rumen to measure methane concentration in real time around the clock, transmitting the data to a cloud server via IoT communication.

Charles Park, CEO of Metech Holdings, said, “This world-first methane capsule design patent, based on four years of clinical trials on cattle, secures design protection for a capsule that can be safely mounted within the cow’s stomach and prevent expulsion. It marks the starting point of a global standard that will lead low-carbon livestock innovation.”
