Reducing enteric fermentation methane in livestock is a central challenge for carbon neutrality and ESG. Conventional synthetic additives vary in effectiveness depending on the mix ratio, and because they suppress methane by intervening in the fermentation balance, they can negatively affect digestion.
The MeTech Methane Reducer Capsule releases microbes that oxidize and break down methane (methanotrophs) into the rumen, oxidizing and breaking down methane that has already formed. Deployed together with the Methane Monitor Capsule, it reduces the operational burden on farms and lets you verify the reduction effect with data.
Experiments have confirmed the methane oxidation and breakdown effect.
Proven Reduction Effect in Testing
Verified in 24-hour in vitro culture and in a 30-day in vivo trial with Hanwoo cattle
No adverse effects on the rumen fermentation environment (pH, gas)
No adverse effects on animal health or productivity

How It Works

Administer the capsule
Administer the capsule to the animal to be treated.

Microbe release
The Methane Reducer Capsule releases microbes (methanotrophs) into the rumen.

Methane uptake
When methane is produced during feed fermentation, the microbes absorb it.

Methane oxidation and breakdown
The microbes oxidize and break down methane, converting it into low-molecular-weight metabolites.

Lasting reduction
The Methane Reducer Capsule continuously releases microbes to sustain methane reduction.
Adoption Benefits
A single dose enables stable reduction regardless of the farming environment.
Works in any farming environment
It can be used even on grazing farms where feed additives are difficult to apply.
Actual measurement, not estimation
Used alongside the Methane Monitor Capsule, it measures the actual amount reduced rather than estimating from intake.
Stable, lasting effect
Unlike additives whose effect varies with the amount fed, the effect remains stable and lasting.
Carbon credit ready
Reduction credits can be designed to be verifiable and traceable in line with MRV methodologies.
Can be combined with feed additives
By oxidizing the methane produced, it can be combined with feed additives to maximize the reduction effect.

FAQ
Methane is a key greenhouse gas emitted by livestock farming, with a warming effect 80 times greater than carbon dioxide (GWP20, IPCC AR6).
Reducing methane is one of the most important carbon-neutrality goals in livestock farming.
It is a next-generation reduction solution that breaks down methane directly inside the rumen, aiming to achieve low-carbon livestock farming and carbon neutrality.
It is an IoT device that releases methanotrophs—microbes that oxidize and break down methane—into the rumen.
It leverages the natural metabolic process by which the microbes (methanotrophs) absorb methane and convert it into low-molecular-weight metabolites. This reduces the amount of methane produced in the rumen that is released into the atmosphere.
They are microbes found in nature that use methane as an energy source. MeTech is developing technology to apply these microbes to the rumen environment.
It aims to reduce methane while maintaining farm productivity.
Research to date has confirmed the potential to reduce methane without negatively affecting key productivity indicators such as weight gain and feed efficiency, and on this basis we are proceeding with demonstration and commercialization.
It is not a technology for eliminating methane completely.
By reducing methane without intervening in the rumen’s fermentation balance, the Methane Reducer Capsule is a solution that enables low-carbon livestock farming without affecting farm productivity.
The Methane Monitor Capsule is a product that measures the amount of methane produced in the rumen.
The methane reduction effect of the Methane Reducer Capsule can be measured with the Methane Monitor Capsule for quantitative verification.
Combined with methane measurement data, the reduction effect can be verified, and it can serve as a core technology for low-carbon certification and carbon credit programs in the future.
The Methane Reducer Capsule is an integrated solution that works together with the Methane Monitor Capsule and the MeTech platform.
By connecting the entire process of measurement → analysis → reduction → verification on a single platform, it can expand into low-carbon livestock and carbon credit markets.
